I want to bring interesting women together
for a reason . . .
When I was 52 I experienced a number of challenging events in my life. There was my kidney cancer—everything turned out OK there. Menopause— that’s still in the works. My daughter married and I missed her.
My son was in the Air Force, stationed in Japan and I missed him. My husband worked full-time and also began a Ph.D. program. I was alone for the first time in a long time. And I felt lost.
Questions bubbled up that I hadn’t had time to think about before:
Who was I?
Who did I want to be?
Did I make a difference in the world?
What should I do with my life?
As I slowly I began to answer these questions for myself, I realized that creativity is and always has been an important part of my life. Even though I spent my career working as a nurse and not a professional artist.
My 4-year plan
I love being around my friends and family—they’re important to me. I also feel that mentoring others is important to me. too. Realizing this and combining all the elements of my life, I put together a 4-year plan with my husband.
We’d “happened upon” the island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean several years before while sailing—I’m a big sailing enthusiast. I’ve captained a women’s team on our racing sailboat—a 40-footer—for years from our home in southern Maryland on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
So I decided to combine the joy of creativity that I’ve experienced with the inspiration of the uniquely beautiful island of Saba by facilitating arts retreats there.
I’ve created an Artist’s Statement about what I want to do that I’ll share with you here:
- I am an artist.
- It has taken me to my 60th year to proclaim this for myself.
- Don’t let it take you as long.
- You have permission from the Universe to proclaim this for yourself. NOW.
- Come to Saba to experience my retreats.
- I focus on the strengths of individuals to stimulate personal and group excellence.
- I want to turn our thoughts and desires into action.
- I want us to name our emotions, pay attention to them, ask the right questions and move forward.
Let’s unravel the mysteries of your talents, motivations, ambitions, fears, working style and thinking processes so you can discover your unique talents and use them!
I invite you to my Artist’s Retreat on the island of Saba in February 2013.
